We sat down with Spa Director, Angee Smithee to get a little deeper into what makes Spa Avania special and what spa means to her.
What does spa mean to you?
To me, spa means many things and the actual word evokes a lot of different emotions. It’s a place I have spent 80% of my time over the last 15 years, it’s the place I go to both work and relax, it’s a place I spend a tremendous amount of my time and energy while in return get it all back through the relationships built with the guests, partners and team and the experiences I have contributed to creating. So to me, Spa means lifestyle.
What makes Spa Avania so special, in your opinion?
There are so many things special about Spa Avania. If I had to make a list, it would include everyone’s name who works here without exception. The Spa team take such pride in what they do and you can feel the incredible energy from the time the welcoming front doors open. Hyatt strives to be the preferred brand among employees, owners and guests and that resonates onto each member of our team which allows us to employ and retain the best of the best.
What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
I get to spend my days surrounded by truly good people who are committed to providing services and creating experiences that enhance other people’s lives
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
Making decisions that affect profitability during sensitive times.
If we came to your house for dinner, what would you make us? (and what would you serve to drink?)
I’m a big fan of grilling! I think I have mastered cooking about everything in my back yard…and I love to serve everything “shareable” So it would definitely be an assortment of grilled filet, chicken, halibut and assorted veggies …and doesn’t everything go good with wine?
What is on your bucketlist?
Oh my…The list is too long for an interview. Aside from visiting every destination (My husband and I pick a new destination every year because there are so many places we both want to see we never go the same place twice) Bungee jump off a bridge, Learn to Sail, Learn Conversational Spanish, Learn to dance to hip hop, paraglide, Experience Weightlessness…the list is big.
