When you hear the word “routine,” what thoughts come to mind? Maybe a routine feels like something you HAVE to do day after day and year after year and even decade after decade to continue to get the results you’re wanting? Despite all of that, a routine can sound kind of exciting at the beginning, but then…it gets to be not so exciting. Why is that?

Routines can definitely help us create and maintain important habits, and there are probably things you do every single day that you don’t even have to think about—they’ve become routine. There are probably other things that you’d like to add into your day—fitness, nutrition, better skincare, improved social life, learning a new skill, and so on—that could help you achieve your goals.

 

But how do you make these things a daily occurrence without them feeling, well, too routine—something you feel like you HAVE to do? It’s all about your mindset, and we’re here to show you how creating rituals, instead of routines, can be so much more fun and fulfilling while also going a long way to helping you achieve any goal that’s on your list.

Skincare, Reimagined: A Ritual, Not a Chore

While both routines and rituals can help you create habits that can serve you well, a ritual is SO much more.

As New York Times Bestselling author Greg McKeown put it, “A ritual is a habit with a soul.”

In other words, a routine is often strictly process driven—to make a behavior automatic, while a ritual serves to make any habit-related behavior intentional and enjoyable. Here’s an easy way to think about a routine versus a ritual:

Routine = I have to do this.

Ritual = I get to do this.

Here are some examples from real life:

I have to work out.

I get to work out.

I have to take care of my skin.

I get to take care of my skin.

I have to eat healthy.

I get to eat healthy.

And so on...

That simple one word shift can really make all the difference! It turns the actions surrounding a habit into a choice, not an “I have to do this” kind of thing. Feel the difference? A ritual involves carefully and mindfully—intentionally—doing something you want to do to achieve something you want to achieve.

Candle Spring Home Reset Ritual

This aroma ritual is our love, peace, gratitude ritual that comes with each candle. It's a great way to cleanse your space. Here’s how:

  • Imagine your house filled from the ground floor up with a beautiful pink energy of Love. 
  • Now, imagine your house being filled from the ground floor up with a beautiful glowing golden energy of peace. 
  • Imagine your house being filled with a beautiful golden yellow energy of gratitude. 
  • Finish this off by taking deep breaths, opening your eyes, and moving throughout the rest of your day with this glow.

Hand Washing Reset Ritual

Take the simple act of washing your hands and turn it into a ritual of giving thanks. Here's how:

  • While you rub your palms together, feel the silky, smooth Wash moisturize and gently exfoliate your palms and fingers. 
  • Begin to shift your attention to your breath. Close your eyes and breathe in for a count of four and breathe out for a count of four. 
  • As you inhale, silently repeat, “I am blessed,” and as you exhale, “I am grateful.”

Some say breathe in what serves you and breathe out what doesn’t, but we believe in taking it to the skin. Here's how to do the spring cleaning challenge:

  • Begin with a thick layer of Body Oil massaged lightly onto dry skin. 
  • Using long, flowing strokes, apply Body Polish onto the oiled skin. 
  • Turn your thoughts over to the simple, meditative motion of your hands gliding over your skin, gently buffing the body.
